Subject: Posting of confidential material without permission

Importance: High

Dear Sirs

Three weeks ago I sent the message below on behalf of the science journal Nature to Mr McIntyre, which concerned the posting of strictly confidential material on Dr McKitrick's website. We note that this withdrawal has not been implemented, despite the urgency of our request.

This may be because Mr McIntyre did not communicate the gravity of this violation with his coauthor, Dr McKitrick. We are therefore asking for your immediate assistance in rectifying this unfortunate matter.

Thank you for your help.

Yours faithfully

Dear Dr McIntyre

It has been drawn to our attention that the reviewers' reports on your recent rejected exchange with Mann et al. are being broadcast at the

following URLs:

http://www.uoguelph.ca/~rmckitri/research/fallupdate04/update.fall04.html

and specifically at :

http://www.uoguelph.ca/~rmckitri/research/fallupdate04/referees.mar.pdf

and:

http://www.uoguelph.ca/~rmckitri/research/fallupdate04/referees.aug.pdf

However, you will see from our policy details on www.nature.com/nature/submit/policies that publicising confidential material is not permitted without **prior permission** from the reviewers themselves.

We must therefore ask you to remove these reviews from public access until such time as we are able to furnish you with written approval from the individual referees, which we shall seek upon receipt of a formal request from you.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely

Rosalind Cotter
